I make functional pottery and sculpture in Homer, Alaska.  Fired in my wood kiln, the Mamagama, a course stoneware clay body gives rough darkness, full of shadows, which contrasts with refined brightness of porcelain and glaze.  The flame flows through the kiln, touching the clay one last time, adding melted ash glaze, crustiness of molten embers and gentle licks of warm color.
