Artist-Driven Alaska Residency

The cohort for the Cynthia Morelli Studio Artist-Driven Residency was curated by host artist, Cynthia Morelli, to serve her professional development as an artist. With funding from Cynthia’s Rasmuson Foundation Fellowship, the invitation to the three artists included is directly related to areas within their practice that she would like to strengthen and expand upon within her own practice. All three invited artists are committed to clay and professionally building their careers in sculpture.

Zoë Powell—Passion and knowledge about collecting and using local materials along with her sensitive use of the abstracted human form in her work.

Heidi Kreitchet—Expertise in multi-day wood firings, idea research and development and her boldly playful, fluid and direct handling of clay.

Amanda Gentry—Conceptual approach to her work, her ability to articulate and explore language and her pursuit of large scale works while maintaining their intimacy.

The culmination of this six week residency was a 4.5 day firing in Cynthia’s Mamagama, a wood fired anagama kiln. The four artists will share work with the Homer, Alaska community at the kiln site on Saturday, November 27th, Noon-3pm. Masks required.
