Autumn Workshop and Artist-Driven Residency

Tu2 and Mamagama are building my community!

At the end of September, Lindsay Oesterritter (Virginia) led a reduction cooled woodfire workshop in Tu2, my small catenary arch kiln. We loaded and fired, then held the kiln in strong reduction as she cooled down to about 1600 degrees Fahrenheit. For the days before unloading while the kiln cooled, we had discussions based on idea development and design. Lindsay kept our minds active with the thoughtful questions she posed.

Now, the past five weeks have both flown by and it also feels as if Amanda Gentry (Chicago, IL), Zoë Powell (St. Paul, MN) and Heidi Kreitchet (Philadelphia, PA) have always lived and made work here in my home and studio. Our time here together is funded by the Rasmuson Foundation Fellowship I was awarded to cultivate my professional development using my tools - my kilns. I selected these women for their strengths in particular areas that I want to grow in my own work. A couple weeks into our six week residency, Bunnell Street Arts Center hosted us for a slide talk where each of us presented for about 15 minutes on our work and intentions for this residency.
